Mental Health Services

Frequently Asked Questions

Currently Mindful Steps is only providing session through teletherapy. If we decide to expand to in person services, we will inform our clients.

A consultation is a short meeting between us that will help Mindful Steps determine if our mental health services would be a good fit for you. Its an opportunity for Mindful Steps to get a glimpse of your presenting concerns, an consultation is a chance for you to ask questions about treatment, experience, and potentially next steps. If you decide to move forward with treatment; our first session will initiate your steps towards our therapeutic work together.

People start therapy for various reasons; to cope with anxiety, grief, depression, addiction, trauma and other concerns as well. A recent event may happen that encourages someone to seek help and/or work through issues that they’ve been struggling with for years. You do not have to have a mental health diagnosis to seek therapy. If you can go to a doctor for a physical checkup; consider going to a therapist for a mental health checkup. Therapy can provide you with support, healthy coping strategies, problem solving skills, improving self-esteem, gaining a better understanding of yourself, and being objective in order to provide you with a different perspective on an issue that you have been struggling with. Therapy is a teamwork effort; the benefit of therapy also depends on your level of readiness and overall commitment.

Therapy sessions tend to last 50 minutes for each session; weekly or bi-weekly sessions are recommended in the beginning until therapeutic goals in therapy have been accomplished and/ or progress in therapy have been identify. At that time, you can decide if you will like to discontinue with therapy or if you are interested in monthly and/or bimonthly sessions for follow up.

The first session will be an overview of your intake that must be completed prior to your first session in order to keep your appointment. We will go into details about your goals for treatment, and gives you the opportunity to see how therapy works, review Mindful Steps policies, privacy, and confidentiality; this will also give you a chance to see how comfortable you are with our therapist. At Mindful Steps we recommend meeting with the therapist at least two or three times to determine therapeutic relationship. It is very important to have a positive working relationship with your therapist. If the therapist feel that someone else might better be aban answer to this item.

Currently we are accepting:

  • United Healthcare (Optum Behavioral Health)
  • Lyra Health
  • Healthcare Advocate
  • Blue Cross Blue Shield

Reach out to your insurance company and see if you have Out of Network Services.  If you do, we will be able to provide you with a super bill.

*A super bill is an invoice that you provide to your company after you pay for your session out of pocket.  Once you provide the super bill to your company, you might be able to be reimbursed.

No, you do not have to have insurance for services.  You can self-pay without insurance.  We currently accept only Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and AMEX card.

  • The first session will be an initial assessment to discuss the client’s history and needs for treatment.  During this first session the client will have the opportunity to see how therapy will work, review office policies, privacy and confidentiality, as well as determine whether or not they are comfortable with the therapist.

  • Side note: It’s vital to have a positive working relationship with your therapist, so it’s recommended that the client and therapist will meet 2-3 times before deciding whether or not the relationship will continue.  The therapist will provide client with referrals of specialists or trusted colleagues if they feel someone else might better be able to work with the client.
